Description

The first ever UK Women in Comedy Festival took place across Greater Manchester from Tuesday October 1st until Sunday 27th 2013 with over 120 shows described by The Independent as ‘a terrific roster of stand up’ and now the second festival is due to take place from Sat 11th October until Sunday 26th October 2014 with acts such as Jo Caulfield, Zoe Lyons, Janey Godley, Jo Neary, Luisa Omielan and Jo Enright already confirmed.

The opening night for the second ever UK Women in Comedy festival will take place on Sat 11th October at The Dancehouse Theatre in Manchester.

Janey Godley described as ‘compelling… ballsy… a breath of fresh air’ (The Guardian) ‘the most outspoken female stand-up in Britain’ (Daily Telegraph) and ‘razor sharp’ (The Observer) will be hosting this event with headliner, Zoe Lyons who is classed as ‘probably the most impressive British female comic on the circuit. (The Skinny).

This will be a night to remember and a very special night for us a some of the Women in Comedy Crew including, Lesley Kershaw, Amy Vreeke, Ms B Haver, Laura Machin, Kate McCabe and Jana Kennedy will also be performing sets.

Multi-award-winning Scottish comedienne, playwright, award-winning blogger, best-selling author and former Scotsman newspaper columnist Janey Godley has performed her comedy shows and one-woman play around the world, including off-Broadway in New York. She is a regular on BBC Radio 4’s Just a Minute. In 2006, Janey was nominated and was close runner-up for the annual Scotswoman of the Year title as ‘the most inspirational woman in Scotland’; at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival, she won the Spirit of The Festival Award. A regular 5-star performer at the Edinburgh Fringe, in 2008 she won the Fringe Report Award as ‘Best Performer’ and two Nivea Funny Women Fringe Awards – as ‘Best Stand-Up’ and, overall, for ‘Best Show’ as “one of the most prolific and extraordinary stand-up comedians working in the UK”.

You may have seen Zoe Lyons on TV shows such as Mock of The Week, The Wright Stuff and Michael McIntyre Roadshow. You should see a lot more of her since the recommendations made by the BBC Trust to not make any more all make panel shows in an aim to change the the habitually macho environment of panel shows such as QI and Mock the Week. (find out more) Zoe took her first steps down the comedy path in 2003 after training as an actress at the Poor School in London. She went on to win the Funny Women Competition in 2004 and her debut Edinburgh show was nominated for the if.comedy newcomer award. In 2008 she won the Dave, Funniest Joke of The Fringe Award. Zoe’s awards include being the Winner of Dave TV Funniest Joke of the Fringe 2008, If.comedy Best Newcomer Nominee 2007, Winner of Nivea Funny Women Award 2004, Finalist in C4’s and the Gilded Balloon’s ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ 2004
