VENUE: THE BOOK CLUB 100 Leonard’s St, Shoreditch.

In good comedy, as in good literature, there’s something called the ‘rule of three’. This is the final one of the three initial dates of The Comedian’s Bookshelf at THE BOOK CLUB. Will this be the one where we find out about the deeper layers of attachment between the comedians? Shall Thomas find his place as the token scientist or will he be led astray by the seductive power of language? Will the sexual tension between Jorik and the audience finally be resolved? And, most importantly: will the night continue?

You can only find out by being there!

The people letting you enter their minds through language ARE:

BISHA K. ALI – Hailing from West London and ping-ponging between cultures has left her with no choice but to stand up and laugh about her strict and strange upbringing. A storyteller, Bisha touches on topics including race, religion, science and family. Her laid-back charm, along with her ability to surprise and delight audiences took her to the Final of the 2013 Funny Women Awards within a year of her first gig (also, originator of this very gig!).

JOHN-LUKE ROBERTS – Co-originator of the Alternative Comedy Memorial Society (the best club in the universe), half of The Behemoth (award winning sketch double act with the wondrous Nadia Kamil), writer for BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz. “He’s a comic who’s prepared to push both himself and his audience in the pursuit of new laughs, of unorthodox, never-been-tried-before routes to the funny.” – The Guardian. He’s a good-un.

PIERRE NOVELLIE – Winner: Amused Moose Laugh-Off 2013. Finalist: Chortle Student Comedian of The Year 2012. Pierre has recently returned from the Edinburgh where he was selected to take part in The Lunchtime Special at Just The Tonic at The Tron. Pierre was also the first comedian to perform at the CERN LHcomedy night, home of the Large Hadron Collider. “Slick and slightly offbeat… sometimes redolent of Eddie Izzard” – Chortle. “An absolute pleasure to watch” – Broadway Baby.

RICHARD SOAMES – 1/4 of Chortle Award Nominated Sketch group The Beta Males (he’s the nice one with the eyes). As heard on Radio 4’s Sketchorama. “Hilarious” – Spoonfed.

JOZ NORRIS – Joz Norris is a member of the Chortle Award-nominated Weirdos Collective and his debut solo Fringe show last year, Joz Norris Has Gone Missing, was in Time Out’s Top Ten Free Shows of the Fringe. “Quality moments of silliness.” – London is Funny. “Norris has created a genuinely brilliant character…the audience loves every second.” – The Skinny.

ELF LYONS – ‘very endearing’ – Londonist, Feminist Times ‘One to Watch’. Funny Women Runner Up 2013. Chortle Student Comedian Semi-Finalist 2014!

JOSH DOLIN – There are many people trying to make it in the world of comedy, and Josh Dolin is one of them. After performing in Sydney for a couple of years, he moved to London to make people laugh, sit quietly for a bit, then laugh again. Josh was the winner of Quest for the Best 2009 (Australian Competition) and So You Think You’re Funny Semi Finalist 2013.

ELEANOR CURRY – Finalist, 2013 Squawker Award. “Highlights included the very talented and scarily young Eleanor Curry celebrating her nerd tendencies.”

AND INTRODUCING: THOMAS GRAFTON SCHLANKER – “honest, clever and hilarious. Way too good for his age” – Sofie Hagen

MC-ing duties taken by JORIK MOL –”Like a male Sue Perkins” – Sajeela Kershi, 2011.
“Best of the evening…A genuine and unique young comic” – The Badger, 2011.
“Jorik is a comedian” – James Hamilton (Casual Violence), 2011.
“Jorik did a good job mc’ing.” – Sofie Hagen
